It starts with a mistake, a still-mysterious failure that drives Loki from his stolen throne far earlier than expected.  In desperation, he flees down impossible roads through unknown time and space to find a new fate he can shape for his own.  A life outside the destiny prepared for him - but to do that, he finds himself among humans that ultimately become the most unexpected of allies: The Agents of SHIELD, led by a man he once killed.

The SHIELD Codex is a canon-flavor genfic series with a slightly altered timeline (due to the interference of the Jotun Space Wizard), ongoing since May 2014.  Each multi-chapter fic is a contained story often meant to evoke the style of an episode or short arc of the Agents of SHIELD series and may include comic book characters written in MCU style.  The shorts between fics are a little more varied, but are generally vignette-flavor backstory or tie-in events.

All stories are rated PG-13/Teen, in line with the series and films.  Some language, moderate comic book violence.  Horror themes where noted.

I wrote two stories for [community profile] crossovering, both gen, so here they are!

Annie Get Your Gun

[Captain America/Alias; Sharon Carter, Sydney Bristow; 1185 words]
Sharon looks down at the badge. It has her picture from the day she came in for the aptitude tests, her name, a QR code, and an ID number. A little thrill passes through her. The CIA isn't SHIELD (then again, it turned out SHIELD wasn't SHIELD, either), but it has always been at the top of her list when it comes to government agencies.

[Agents of Shield/Push; Leo Fitz, Cassie Holmes, Nick Gant, Jemma Simmons; 1480 words]
Leo meets Cassie in a quiet bar just outside of Washington, DC. Jemma's gone to use the ladies' room, and he's drinking his pint, minding his own business, when this girl with purple hair sits down next to him and says, "Come here often?"

How to Beat a Kaiju Invasion (10242 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: The Avengers (Marvel Movies), Pacific Rim (2013)

Summary: The first one shows up about a year after the Chitauri invasion. It takes Hulk, Iron Man, SHIELD and the Army two days to take the thing down. (A story about accepting your limitations, overcoming your insecurities, and what it means to win a war.)

This is beautifully written, and turns a movie about giant-robots-punching-monsters into a story about people doing what they think is right, or necessary, and occasionally managing to do both. There are so many threads here about friendship and freedom and heroism and the author brings them together brilliantly.

(It's tagged with a background Tony/Steve relationship, but it is not at all the focus of the story.)

[This is re-posted from my personal journal, now with my commentary!]

These are (mostly) gen, and if there are pairings, they are implied, incidental, or just barely getting started (basically, they are not the focus of the story). I've recced some of these before, but they're so good, I'm sharing them again.
