Uncle Danny laughs at that. “Jimmy-kid,” he says, “your old man has got some real trumped up notions of what it is we do. Death ain’t beautiful. We just help create the illusion that it can be.”

my comments: This story is based on a meta discussion I had with some other tumblr users about why Bucky's family had a car in the flashback in Winter Soldier. I speculated that perhaps they ran the funeral parlor and thus owned the hearse, and legete mentioned that it seemed fitting that Bucky's fate was always linked to death. Neither of us ever went anywhere with it, but rosepetalfall picked it up and ran with it and did an absolutely wonderful job with it. The Barnes family has been nicely fleshed out, and each of the Barnes children get their moments to shine. There are also some other really great side characters (I personally really like the section with Essie, the youngest daughter of the neighborhood rabbi). This is a fantastic story; you won't be disappointed.

I couldn't finish the fic due to my own headspace (it got a bit too sad, and I have a bit of a jerkbrain at the moment, which is SO ANNOYING, as the start of that fic is SO WONDERFUL), but I read the meta and the Barnes family running the funeral home makes so much sense.

Would you have any objections if I used that as my own headcanon/background for my own fics? (with linking to the meta, of course)
